Gender imbalance in China drives housing demand, inflating prices nationwide.
Gender imbalance in China has led to families with sons buying more expensive homes to increase their sons' marriage prospects. This study used data from the China Household Finance Survey to show that households with at least one son are more likely to purchase larger or additional properties. This suggests that the gender disparity in China may be contributing to the rise in housing prices.
