Media bias perpetuates negative image of Indonesian women politicians post-1965.
The article examines how Indonesian women politicians have been portrayed in the media over the past 50 years, particularly in relation to the G30S/PKI incident. The researchers analyzed newspaper articles from 1965 to 2015 to see how the media coverage of Gerwani, a women's organization, has evolved over time. They found that the media tends to support those in power and often frames women's interests from a male perspective. Female politicians are more positively viewed by society when they focus on peaceful methods rather than militant approaches. This study sheds light on how media representation can influence societal perceptions of women in politics.
