DEI Efforts Finally Count in Tenure Decisions for STEM Faculty
DEI efforts may not be considered in tenure decisions in STEM fields. Researchers conducted an experiment using different CVs to see if highlighting DEI efforts could compensate for lower research accomplishments. They found that the race and gender of candidates did influence the impact of these efforts on tenure decisions. The study involved over 800 participants in ecological and evolutionary biology and nearly 500 in mechanical engineering.
