Decades Needed to Assess Reliability of US Presidential Election Forecasts
Probabilistic election forecasts are widely debated and influence campaigns, but there isn't enough data to evaluate their reliability. Presidential elections are rare events, making it hard to assess forecasting accuracy. State-level results don't provide much additional insight due to how winners are determined and high correlation. It will take decades to millennia to determine if probabilistic forecasting truly predicts election outcomes reliably.
