Black and poor communities targeted in Michigan voter purge rates.
Voter purges in Michigan were studied to see who gets removed from election rolls. The researchers found that areas with more Democratic voters, urban areas, and Black residents had higher purge rates. Even after considering factors like mobility and mortality, communities with more Black and poorer residents still had higher purge rates. This suggests that voter purges in Michigan may be unfairly targeting certain groups.
