Illegal primate trade thrives on TikTok, endangering endangered species worldwide.
The study looked at how many primates are being sold on TikTok and where they come from. They found 43 ads for monkeys from six different types of primates and five countries. Spider monkeys, rhesus macaques, and common marmosets were the most advertised species. Some of these species are in danger of disappearing. The USA, UK, and Pakistan were the main countries selling primates. The study suggests that stricter laws are needed to protect primates and stop illegal trading.
