YouTube's Algorithm Favors COVID-19 Misinformation in South Africa Over US
YouTube search results for COVID-19 misinformation were compared between the US and South Africa. Bots in South Africa encountered more misinformation than in the US. 31.55% of the top-10 search results contained COVID-19 misinformation. The study shows that YouTube's algorithm behaves differently in these two countries, suggesting a need for consistent regulation across regions.
