Media coverage boosts female politicians by challenging gender biases in voter evaluations.
This dissertation explores how the media influences how people view male and female politicians. Contrary to common beliefs, media coverage usually doesn't unfairly sway opinions based on gender. In fact, it often creates similarities between male and female politicians. When differences do arise, they often benefit women. The research suggests that women in politics can benefit from emphasizing their expertise rather than conforming to gender stereotypes. However, subtle biases may still exist within the complex political and media systems. Overall, this study sheds light on how media, gender, and voter responses interact, helping us understand and address gender biases in politics for more equal representation.
