Paclobutrazol boosts mango tree flowering, but beware fruit set consequences!
The researchers studied how different chemicals affected the flowering and fruit production of mango trees. They used paclobutrazol, Cycocel, and Alar on nine-year-old mango trees for two years. Paclobutrazol made the trees flower early and abundantly. Cycocel and Alar slightly increased flowering in the first year but reduced it in the second year. Paclobutrazol increased fruit set, but too much of it (10g per tree) harmed fruit production. Overall, the treatments affected the type of flowers produced, pollen fertility, and fruit retention in mango trees.
