Electric utilities are looking for ways to produce electricity more cheaply. One way is to increase the power output of nuclear power plants without building new ones. Stone and Webster have studied how to do this by evaluating the feasibility of uprating reactor core power output. They found that by following a phased approach, including feasibility studies and plant modifications, it is possible to increase the power output of nuclear plants.
