Climate models predict worsening droughts and heatwaves in China's future.
Thirteen climate models were tested to see how well they predict temperature and rainfall in China from 1961 to 2000. The models did a good job at showing how temperatures change over the year and across China, but they tended to underestimate the actual temperatures. Most models could also predict the general pattern of rainfall in China, but there were differences between regions. The models were better at showing long-term temperature trends than short-term variations. Overall, the combined model results were the most accurate for temperature, while the UKMO-HadCM3 model was the best for predicting rainfall.
