The article discusses how scientists are now able to include detailed ignition modeling in combustion simulations thanks to advances in computing power. By integrating ignition and combustion modeling, they are able to analyze spark ignition and laser-induced spark ignition in combustion chambers. Both methods use equation-of-state tables at very high temperatures. The researchers used an atomic physics code to create the tables needed for their simulations.
