A social program in Mexico called PROGRESA was studied using a method called Regression Discontinuity Design. By looking at a specific eligibility rule, researchers estimated the effects of the program on children in different regions. They found that the program had varying impacts across regions and also affected children who were not eligible. This method allowed them to compare the program's performance to a randomized experiment.
