Drinking Water Contaminated by Pharmaceutical Waste Threatens Public Health
Pharmaceutical products and their breakdown products are ending up in our water sources, like rivers and lakes, after being used by people and animals. Studies have found that even low levels of these drugs can be detected in our wastewater, surface water, groundwater, and even drinking water. We don't know much about how these drugs might affect aquatic animals in the long run. To learn more, a monitoring program has been started in the Netherlands to track the presence and effects of these drug residues on aquatic life.
