New bridge features improve safety and durability, revolutionizing infrastructure construction.
The article reviews different experimental features used in bridges, such as epoxy coated reinforcing steel, stay in place forms, and precast segmental bridges. Most of these features are working well, but there were some issues with steel corrosion on one bridge. The study also looked at failures of masonry coatings and aluminum guardrail retaining nuts, identifying the causes and suggesting solutions. Overall, many of the experimental bridge features are now commonly used in bridge construction.
