Renewable Fuel Standard Aims to Reduce Oil Dependence, Boost Biofuel Use
The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) aims to increase the use of biofuels in transportation fuel to reduce reliance on foreign oil and stabilize fuel prices. By 2022, 36 billion gallons of biofuels, including cellulosic biofuels made from grasses and agricultural waste, are required to be blended into fuel. This will help create a market for biofuels and promote their use in the transportation sector.
