West Bengal Soils Revealed: High Acidity Levels Threaten Agricultural Productivity
The acidity of soils in West Bengal was studied to understand its nature and how it relates to different soil properties. Different types of acidity were measured, with Inceptisols having the highest levels. pH-dependent and hydrolytic acidities were the main contributors to total acidity. The amount of organic carbon and aluminum in the soil were positively correlated with acidity levels, while soil pH had a negative correlation. The variations in soil acidity were mainly influenced by pH, organic carbon, and exchangeable aluminum.
