UN's Human Security Challenge: Redefining Global Safety Beyond State Borders
Human Security emerged as a new concept in international relations, challenging the idea that a state's treatment of its own people is solely its own concern. While the United Nations has embraced human security, it has not yet caused a major shift in how we think about global security. The concept is still evolving and has not replaced the traditional focus on state security. The idea of a universal, global community based on human security is still far from reality.
