Transplanting Cotton Seedlings Boosts Yield and Quality in Aegean Region
Cotton production techniques like using seedlings and twin rows can increase yield and quality while reducing costs. Research in the Aegean Region found that transplanting seedlings for main crop cotton can lead to earlier maturity. Second crop cotton from seedlings had higher boll opening percentage compared to direct seeding. Transplanting seedlings provided a 15-30 day advantage, resulting in earlier harvesting and higher efficiency. Main crop cotton from seedlings yielded 5,543 kg/ha, while second crop from seedlings yielded 3,966 kg/ha. Direct seeding for second crop led to lower yields due to harvest delay.
