Poor Mental Health Linked to 17% Decrease in Labour Market Participation
Mental health strongly affects whether people are able to work. By studying data from many individuals over time, researchers found that poor mental health significantly reduces the likelihood of being employed. This effect is especially pronounced for women and older individuals. In fact, a decrease in mental health by one standard deviation can lead to a 17% decrease in the chance of being part of the workforce. This shows that mental health issues can have a big impact on productivity at work.
