Reforming Social Protection in Egypt to Tackle Widespread Poverty
Social protection in the Arab world, like in Egypt, is not effectively helping the poor due to inefficient systems. Reforms are needed to make social assistance more beneficial for those in need. The proposed approach includes raising awareness of social risks, increasing social assistance spending, and reforming public pension schemes. Additionally, new strategies are needed to support informal sector workers who struggle to access social insurance or assistance. Micro-insurance is suggested as a promising solution for this region.
