New study reveals how composite plates deform under impact loads.
Researchers studied how circular composite plates made of graphite and epoxy resin behave when subjected to low-velocity impact loads. They developed a model to predict the plates' deformation shapes and tested it on actual laminates. The analyses showed that the shapes of the plates change depending on the amount of load applied. By using a simplified model, they were able to accurately predict the deflected shapes of the composite plates in experiments.
