Optometry boards urged to mandate CPR certification for licensure renewal.
The study looked at CPR certification requirements for optometrists in different states. It found that only 17% of states need CPR certification for optometric licensure, and 11% require it for license maintenance. For initial DPA licensing, 44% of states require CPR certification, but less than 25% need it for maintaining the license. For TPA legislation, 36% of states require CPR certification for initial licensure, but only 8% need it for license renewal. The study suggests that requiring CPR certification for all optometric licensure could improve healthcare.
