Climate change pushing intertidal species towards cooler seas around Iceland.
Intertidal macrofauna in Iceland were studied to see how they are distributed in relation to temperature. Data from 208 areas were analyzed, showing that some species have limits based on cooler seas. Warm springs can extend the range of certain species. Species in colder areas may be restricted to warmer coastal regions. The distribution of these species tends to concentrate in areas with abrupt temperature changes.
