Household income not a true measure of well-being for women.
Household income is not a reliable measure of well-being, especially for married women as second earners. The assumption that higher income means a better standard of living doesn't hold up when considering factors like child care costs and productivity. Female labor supply varies widely and can't be explained just by wages and number of children. By looking at these other factors, it's clear that household income doesn't accurately reflect how well off a family is.
