Empathy plays key role in reducing generalized prejudice, study finds.
The study looked at why some people are more prejudiced than others. They found that different types of prejudice (like towards sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, and disabilities) can be grouped together as a general prejudice factor. Social dominance, empathy, and social desirability all play a role in how prejudiced someone is. Men tend to score higher on prejudice, but this is mostly because they have lower levels of empathy. Empathy is really important in understanding and measuring prejudice.
