New Discovery Unlocks Potential to Enhance Immune Response and Suppress Antibodies.
Two different types of T cells have been found to express specific genes that either enhance or suppress the immune response, while B cells do not have these genes. The genes are located in the I-A and I-J subregions. An experiment showed that an antiserum could absorb these T cell factors even after removing B cells, indicating their specificity to T cells. This suggests that there are at least two loci in the I-A and I-J subregions that code for molecules on T cells but not on B cells.
