Uncertain Willingness to Pay Skews Valuation of Health Risks
The study compared different ways of asking people how much they would pay to avoid getting sick from air pollution. They found that when asked in different ways, people gave different answers. People who used a payment card gave lower values than those who answered yes or no questions. But when asked to be more certain, the answers became similar. This shows that how a question is asked can affect the answers people give about how much they would pay to avoid getting sick from air pollution.
