Solar-Powered Refrigeration System in Saudi Arabia Cools with Green Energy!
A solar-powered refrigeration system using ammonia and water was designed and tested in Saudi Arabia. The researchers built a chiller, ice storages, and solar collectors, and successfully integrated them with a control unit. The system achieved a cooling capacity of 10.1 kW with a coefficient of performance (COP) of 0.69 at specific temperatures. Even at higher temperatures, the chiller still operated with a cooling capacity of 4.5 kW and a COP of 0.42.
