The study looked at how sediment moves in the swash zone of a beach. They found that the difference in sediment transport between the uprush and downrush is mainly due to higher shear stress during the uprush. By modeling the shear stress generated by the water movement, they were able to predict sediment transport accurately without needing separate formulas for uprush and downrush. However, the timing of sediment transport rates may not be fully captured due to the unpredictable nature of the swash. This method provides a useful step towards understanding sediment transport in rapidly changing conditions at the beach.
