Increase in Bank Capital Ratios Linked to Higher Non-Performing Loans
The study looked at how the amount of money banks have affects the quality of their assets in Tanzania. They used data from 33 banks over a 6-year period and found that having more money in reserve can sometimes make the quality of assets worse. This means that when banks have higher capital ratios, they might have more loans that aren't being paid back. Overall, the banks in Tanzania seem to be in a good financial position according to the analysis. The recommendation is for the Bank of Tanzania to keep a close eye on banks to make sure they are stable and following the rules.
