Presidential agendas often stray from campaign promises, study finds.
Presidential candidates talk about certain issues during their campaigns, but do they actually focus on those same issues once they become president? By looking at what candidates say during campaigns and what presidents do once in office, we can see if they stick to their promises. This study looked at presidential documents and messages to voters from 1980 to 2001 to see if there was a match between campaign promises and presidential actions. The researchers found that electoral factors can influence how closely a president's agenda aligns with their campaign messages.
