Invasive finches set to expand into new territories, study finds.
Non-native finch species can impact ecosystems, so predicting where they might spread is important. Scientists studied four finch species and found that using data only from their native areas may underestimate their potential distribution. The climate niches of these species in their native and non-native ranges were different, showing significant niche shifts. These finches have a high potential to spread in tropical and subtropical regions, but predicting their spread to temperate areas is uncertain.
