New Foundation Design Reduces Pile Numbers, Boosts Immersed Tunnel Safety.
Settlement reducing pile foundations are a new way to design foundations that can reduce the number of piles needed. A study tested steel pipe piles in sand to see how factors like pile cap, cushion thickness, pile spacing, and length affect the foundation's behavior. They found that increasing pile length is the most effective way to increase the pile's ability to support weight, followed by adjusting cushion thickness and pile cap. Pile spacing has the least impact on the foundation's load-sharing ability. The study's results can help with designing similar projects in the future.
