Plankton and fish dance together in British Columbia lakes!
Planktivores and zooplankton in British Columbia lakes move up and down in the water at different times of day. When young salmon swim up and down, most zooplankton stay near the surface. But in a lake with sticklebacks, where the salmon sometimes swim in the opposite direction, most zooplankton also move up and down. This shows that the behavior of zooplankton is linked to the behavior of the fish that eat them.
