Boosting phosphorus levels leads to increased herbage yield in mixed swards
Adding phosphorus to a mix of perennial ryegrass and white clover increased total herbage yield by 10%. Ryegrass benefited more initially, but both species benefited equally over time. Both species had larger leaves with added phosphorus, but clover had shorter stolon internodes. Phosphorus may help white clover spread in open areas, but it may not help it compete with strong grasses.
