Text indexing systems that assign appropriate weights to individual terms are more effective in retrieving information compared to other complex methods. The key to success lies in choosing the right term-weighting systems. This study has gathered experimental evidence over the past two decades to support this claim. By using baseline single-term-indexing models, researchers can compare the effectiveness of more advanced content analysis techniques.
