Eco-friendly Enzyme Decolorizes Toxic Dyes, Revolutionizing Textile Wastewater Treatment
Researchers used a natural enzyme called laccase from a fungus grown on waste from the brewing industry to remove stubborn dyes in a lab setting. They found that adding a certain chemical called phenol helped the fungus produce more laccase, which was very effective at removing different types of dyes. The laccase enzyme could remove between 31.30% to 87.70% of the dyes within 48 hours.
