Freshwater fish from South Brazil rich in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids!
Freshwater fish from southern Brazil were analyzed for their fatty acid content. The most common saturated fatty acid found was palmitic acid, while oleic acid was the most abundant monounsaturated fatty acid. Linoleic acid, linolenic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid were the main polyunsaturated fatty acids. Fish like truta, barbado, and corvina were rich in eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. Overall, most freshwater fish studied were good sources of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
