Seawater introduction boosts water quality but raises coastal pollution levels.
Seawater was introduced to the Isahaya Bay reservoir, causing changes in water quality. The intake of seawater led to layers of different water properties and a temporary decrease in oxygen levels near drainage gates. Suspended solids, nitrogen, and phosphorus levels in the reservoir decreased due to dilution. However, the discharge of pollutants into the coastal area increased during seawater introduction.
