Endophyte-infected grasses boost zinc absorption for soil clean-up success!
The study looked at how a type of fungus called Neotyphodium affects the ability of two grass species, Festuca arundinacea and Lolium perenne, to absorb zinc from the soil. They found that infected Festuca and Lolium plants had more tillers and better growth compared to non-infected plants. The infected Festuca also had higher zinc levels in their shoots, which could help them clean up contaminated soil. Overall, the fungus seems to help the grasses deal with high zinc levels in the soil and grow better.
