Nitrogen Boost Saves Rice Crops from Toxic Boron, Increases Yields
The researchers studied how adding nitrogen to rice plants grown in soil with high boron levels affects the plants' growth and yield. They tested different levels of boron and nitrogen in a greenhouse experiment. They found that high boron levels reduced seed yield, but adding nitrogen helped the plants grow better. Adding a small amount of boron with nitrogen increased yield, but too much boron decreased yield. Nitrogen also helped lower the boron levels in the plants. Boron increased the levels of boron, potassium, phosphorous, and zinc in the plants, while nitrogen decreased zinc levels and increased nitrogen and phosphorous levels.
