New Study Reveals Nonlinear Brain Dynamics in Resting and Anesthetic States
Correlation integrals were used to analyze EEG signals from resting and anesthetized rabbits. Nonlinear dynamics were found in all time series. The attempt to determine correlation dimension D(2) failed, but different brain states could still be distinguished. Correlation parameters derived from correlation integrals can quantitatively characterize the time series, reflecting autocorrelation of the signal.
