Unequal boss favoritism fuels coworker contempt and stifles workplace cooperation.
When coworkers have different relationships with their boss, it can lead to negative feelings and interactions between them. This study looked at how these differences affect how coworkers feel about each other and how much help they think they receive. The results showed that when coworkers have different levels of relationship with their boss, one coworker may feel contempt towards the other and think they receive less help from them. This is especially true for coworkers who often compare themselves to others. Feeling contempt towards a coworker can also affect how much help is perceived from them. Overall, getting help from coworkers is linked to better sales performance.
