F1 interspecific hybrids reveal hidden parentage in Cucurbita relationships.
The study looked at how different types of squash plants are related to each other. They found that when different types of squash plants have babies together, those babies usually look more like one of the parents. The babies between wild and farm squash plants usually look more like the wild parent. By comparing certain values, they could figure out which parents the babies came from. They also found that new squash plants can usually be put into the right group based on how they look.
