Revolutionizing plant conservation: Sicilian flowers saved from extinction through freezing.
In this study, scientists successfully preserved Limonium serotinum plant shoot tips using a method called droplet-vitrification. They found that treating the samples with specific sugar solutions before cryopreservation greatly improved growth recovery. By using optimal conditions involving glycerol and sucrose solutions, they achieved a 37% recovery rate of the cryopreserved shoot tips. The regrowth of the preserved samples was slow but always direct, without forming calluses.
