Coal-fired power plants are often seen as polluting due to high CO2 emissions, but some can capture CO2. Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) systems are cleaner options. This study looked at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from oxygen-fed entrained flow gasifiers in IGCC plants. They used a process simulator to analyze two IGCC designs with different gasifiers and coal types. The study found that using IGCC for CO2 capture can be both technically feasible and cost-effective.
