A new distribution called generalized exponential distribution is found to be similar to the gamma distribution but with a more compact form. It can be used as an alternative to the gamma distribution in many cases. Random numbers generated from the generalized exponential distribution closely resemble those from the gamma distribution. Real-life data sets show that the two distributions are almost identical in many aspects. This finding can help in efficiently generating gamma random numbers and fitting skewed data sets accurately.
