Climate change triggers rapid transformation of peatlands into ombrotrophic communities.
The study looked at how bogs develop in different climates. Bogs can form when the surface is separated from water. Bogs can become isolated quickly, leading to the growth of bog plants. Bogs can form in various water conditions and climates. There are two main ways bogs become isolated: through dry or wet pioneer communities. Tregaron Bog in Wales didn't follow the usual pattern. The transition from fen to bog happened during wetter times, but the bog was dry and had a deep water table. The fen communities at Tregaron were short-lived. The bog has a history of water level changes, possibly influenced by river changes.
