Malaysia's EFB co-composting breakthrough slashes landfill waste and costs!
Large amounts of organic waste in Malaysia, especially from palm oil industries, are causing disposal issues. To address this, researchers studied different organic materials to find the best mix for composting empty fruit bunches (EFBs). They found that organic materials with a C/N ratio of < 30 can be used as a nitrogen source in EFB composting. The ideal mixing ratio for EFB composting is between 50% and 60% EFB. This means EFB can be effectively used in composting if the right mix of materials is used.
